Peer Mentors
This program allows our Year 4/5/6 students to become true leaders within the school as positive role models for younger students. Participation is voluntary, giving students a chance to exercise their student voice and agency.
Peer mentors develop interpersonal skills and negotiation strategies and receive training to learn about body language, active listening, clarifying, respecting different viewpoints, empathy, asking open-ended questions, and brainstorming ideas. They also learn how to assist in finding solutions to low-level conflicts.
Our Peer Mentors have a roster for when they are 'on duty' during break times. They provide a friendly face and a trustworthy presence, helping otherer students feel more secure and connected. Mentors can guide other students in developing social skills, managing conflicts, and understanding positive teamwork. Mentors are expected to act as positive role models, demonstrating desirable behaviors and attitudes that can influence other students' interactions and self-esteem.
