Allergy Aware

It is of the utmost importance that every member of the school community be aware that there are students at Gladesville Primary School who are anaphylactic.

Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life threatening. The most common allergens in school aged children are peanuts, eggs, tree nuts (cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, chestnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, coconut, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, and walnuts), cow’s milk, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, sesame, latex, certain insect stings and medication.

A reaction can develop within minutes of exposure to the allergen, but with planning and training, a reaction can be treated effectively by using an adrenaline auto-injection device.

Gladesville Primary School is ALLERGY AWARE and practices age appropriate minimisation. Students are not to share food. As a significant number of our anaphylactic students have peanut and tree nut allergies, we ask that you do not send any food products containing nuts of any kind to school with your child.
